Synopsis

At the heart of the coral reef live its enigmatic inhabitants….

Whether feeding daintily, attacking aggressively or ambushing when least expected, reef creatures use body shape to determine their lifestyle. Whether flirtatious or monogamous, multi-partnered or nurturing their young, the animals have adapted over eons, developing ingenious ways to survive.

In a fast-paced, ever-changing world, ‘The Circle of Life’ explores the extraordinary behaviour, overwhelming will and captivating character of the reefs most elusive creatures.

From microscopic larvae to prospective parent, the Yellowhead Jawfish locates his mate. Intricately building an elaborate home, he closes their ‘door’ at night. The mating dance, the eggs are laid, then lovingly protected by an exemplary father, comically oxygenating them, guarding them in… his mouth. When ready to hatch he liberates his offspring, to begin their new life. Reward of months of intense observation, this multiple Award Winning sequence is an emotional world premiere.

Spending months underwater and surpassing the elements, our Fish Behaviourists reach a rare proximity to the marine life. The animals take on individual character, fascinated by the camera, the fingers of a hand.
