GUY CHAUMETTE

"I have to give credit to Jaques-Yves Cousteau for entertaining my youth with his underwater exploration. I believe that watching his shows on a black and white TV showed me the way to the aquatic realm.

The ocean is probably the last frontier. A place where there is still so much we don't know. A marvellous environment to study and observe life we barely understand.

People sometimes ask me why I am making underwater films... Protecting the coral reefs is a world responsibility because the sea has no boundaries; whatever happens here will affect there. Somehow I wish that our films will show and inspire people that the marine environment is worth saving. I remember a proverb from my travels in China that describe best what I think:

'If you think one year ahead, plant rice.
If you think ten years ahead, plant a tree.
But if you want to think a hundred years ahead, educate people!'
Well that is my official answer... But really?...

I do it because I love it"!

ANITA CHAUMETTE

"The aquatic realm is the last frontier, the final place on earth where you can still go and actually discover something that nobody else has ever seen. You just need to spend enough time, patiently observe and learn how to look.

My challenge is to expose the true spirit of the captivating creatures of the blue; to personify the fascinating animals who can't make themselves heard in this silent, yet vibrantly social environment. If the world is ready to watch and learn, then my obsession to capture them in their most vulnerable moments is a gift that I can give.

Our images say so much more than our words about the fragile and haunting beauty of the living ocean. It's time to bring real underwater stories to the screen; to share with others what is at stake.

Sometimes people wonder why I choose to go underwater for a few hours everyday to try and catch the elegant silhouette of a manta ray flying over the reef or a jaw fish churning the eggs in his mouth... I just smile and reply with Hillary's words:

"Because it's there!"
